#6 Hoosier Hill, elevation 1,257 ft.

Cows. Corn. More cows and more corn.

Hoosier Hill, a gentle upward swelling of a cornfield, is barely in Indiana. A strong breeze in the right direction would blow it easily into Ohio.

A storm was building on the day we visited, source of the moody sky Christina photographed with her chunky Mamiya. The father and children in the background of some of the pictures were enthusiastic highpointers; the mom, they told us, stayed in the RV.

Hoosier Hill has since been subject to “improvements.” A clearing amid the cornfield-adjacent woods, it was then marked only by a logbook and mailbox constructed by Eagle Scout Kyle Cummings in 2005. The mailbox, with its bespoke masonry work, was on the ground, not atop the post that denoted the highpoint.
