Because the north slide was visibly wet as seen from the ski area, we opted for the easier route (per the AMC guide). It was the summer solstice, and the hike was uneventful, even the slide. We met only a few people, in fact, most of them picking their way down the rocks.

These were the first and only 4,000ers I hiked with my Swiss friend Peter Wipf. He was wearing new boots and got blisters and foot pain after the Whiteface summit, so I went up Passaconaway by myself. The fact that I knew he was waiting for me back at the junction probably explains why I took so few pictures. This trip is one of my most poorly documented.
